Louis Vuitton uses Icon Muhammad Ali in New Marketing Campaign

My eyes pass swiftly over most fashion ads, which can be counted on to feature  models  posing with fill-in-the-blank lipstick, clothes or jewelry.
But the new Louis Vuitton ad featuring Muhammad Ali made me pause. The three-year-old in the photo – shot last month by Annie Leibovitz – holds a feet-apart-chest-out stance that seems to say the same sort of thing his 70-year-old grandfather once brashly blurted: “I’m puuritty. I’m the grrreatest.”
Fashion and luxury ads rarely win big ad-industry awards. But despite their substantial volume of ads, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Ralph Lauren – have not.
Print ads featuring the boxing champion will launch June 14, in the latest installment of an ad campaign that has featured Mikhail Gorbachev, soccer great Pelé, musician Keith Richards and, most recently, actress Angelina Jolie, who was shown floating on a Cambodian boat with a Louis Vuitton "Alto" bag at her side.

The ad, which will run in magazines and newspapers in 60 countries, seems to capture Mr. Ali in private reverie. Photographed last month by Anne Leibovitz in his Phoenix backyard, Mr. Ali watches with pleasure as a young boy stands with fists gloved, feet splayed, chest puffed. Though not identified in the ad, the child is his grandson, Curtis Muhammad Conway Jr.

Louis Vuitton, now part of the LHVM luxury conglomerate, started as a French luggage maker in the 19th century. While many consumers associate the brand with its "LV" logo wallets and handbags—or with its clothing designer,Marc Jacobs —the company sees travel and journeys as the central message of its marketing and hammers home the idea that there should be a Louis Vuitton bag along on any great journey. The company since 2007 has focused its ads on iconic individuals whose lives can be seen as extraordinary journeys. "We are a very specific brand—we are the only one bound with travel," says Yves Carcelle, Louis Vuitton's chairman and chief executive.

In an industry flooded with cliche repetitive marketing Louis Vuitton remains the steadfast for invoking thought provocative marketing with dignity.

The 10 Youngest Billionaires in the World

Four of the world's youngest billionaires are connected to Facebook; two are the sons of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri; one is a woman. Here's how the 10 youngest billionaires made their fortunes...

Zuckerberg, 28, launched Facebook from his college dorm room and grew it into one of the world's most successful businesses. While his wealth has taken a big hit following Facebook's disappointing IPO, he's still worth close to $15 billion, according to public estimates.

2. Sean Parker

The co-founder of Napster (and first president of Facebook) has more than $2 billion to his name. Parker, 32, served as a mentor to Zuckerberg and famously urged him to drop the "the" in the original version of Facebook's name. He was also an early investor in Spotify, the music sharing company.

3. Eduardo Saverin
This co-founder of Facebook, now worth an estimated $2 billion, had to fight for that title: He sued Facebook and later agreed to a settlement, as depicted in the movie The Social Network. Saverin, 30, who grew up in a wealthy family, has a reputation for enjoying the good life and racking up large bar tabs.

4. Dustin Moskovitz
Moskovitz, 28, also knew Zuckerberg from college and worked on Facebook in its early stages. He has since left Facebook to pursue a new start-up, along with charitable work. Forbes estimates his net worth at around $3.5 billion.

5. Scott Duncan
Scott Duncan, now in his late twenties, made billions the old-fashioned way; he inherited it from his late father, who started an energy pipeline company. He is worth an estimated $4 billion and maintains a limited online presence.

6. Fahd Hariri
Now living in Paris, this married 31-year-old and son of the late Lebanese Prime Minister Rafic Hariri works in real estate and holds an architecture degree. He is worth just over $1 billion and pops up frequently on the international social scene.

7. Robert Pera
Pera, a former Apple engineer now in his mid-thirties, founded Ubiquiti Networks, which makes wireless gear. He reportedly still enjoys living frugally, despite the fact that he's worth over $1 billion.

8. Ayman Hariri
Like his brother (#6), Ayman Hariri, who's in his mid-thirties, has an international pedigree: He earned his undergrad degree in the United States, at Georgetown University, and now works in real estate while living in Saudi Arabia.

9. Yang Huiyan
The only woman on the list, Yang Huiyan, who's in her early thirties, gained her billions when her father transferred much of his own wealth to her in 2005. (Her father, a self-made man, started Country Garden, a successful Chinese high-end real estate company.)

10. Albert Von Thurn Und Taxis

This German prince, 28, attended school in Italy and Scotland before returning to his home country. He enjoys race-car driving as well as local energy projects.

Sky Diver Plans Record-Breaking 120,000-Foot Jump From Stratosphere

A skydiver is set to become the first person to break the sound barrier during a free fall by leaping from  on the edge of space.

Sometime in August of this year, skydiver Felix Baumgartner intends to climb into a capsule suspended beneath a helium balloon, rise 23 miles above Roswell, New Mexico, open the capsule door, and jump out. On the 120,000-foot free fall—the longest ever attempted—he will face temperatures as low as –70°F and speeds of more than 700 miles an hour, becoming the first person to accelerate through the sound barrier without a craft. At the outset of the project, dubbed Stratos by its sponsor, Red Bull, no high-altitude full-pressure suit had ever been built specifically to withstand this kind of controlled free fall. Engineers at the David Clark Company, which builds full-pressure suits for NASA and the Department of Defense, spent four years developing one. Baumgartner’s jump will be the first live trial at Mach speeds.
Suit: It has four layers. The outer layer is made of Nomex, a fire-retardant material that will also act as an insulator. Under the Nomex is a mesh restraint, which holds a gas-filled bladder. The innermost layer is a breathable liner. Once pressurized, the suit will become rigid. Its vertical orientation will help Baumgartner maintain delta position (head down, feet up) throughout his free fall—crucial if he is to avoid a flat spin.
Pressure System: To avoid decompression sickness, hypoxia and tissue damage—all risks associated with drastic changes in atmospheric pressure—Baumgartner will be breathing pure oxygen, and his suit will maintain an internal pressure of 3.5 psi. As he falls, an aneroid valve and a pair of diaphragms will regulate the suit’s internal pressure. When he hits 35,000 feet, it will depressurize, giving him greater mobility.

Chest Pack: The technology hub of the suit, the chest pack contains a voice transmitter and receiver; a high-definition video camera with a superwide 120-degree view; an accelerometer; an inertial-measurement unit that reports pitch and angle; and twin sets of lithium-ion batteries, one to power the visor’s de-icing system and one to power the chest pack itself.
G-Meter: The jump will begin in the stratosphere, where falling objects, less hindered by air density and friction, tend to spin. But a violent spin could whirl Baumgartner into a G-force-induced loss of consciousness, called G-loc, and even rattle him to death. As a precaution, he will wear a G-force meter on his wrist. If it reads 3.5 or more Gs for a period of six seconds, the meter will trigger the release of a three-foot drogue parachute designed to stabilize spins.

Ferrari GTO Becomes Most Expensive Car At $35 Million

A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO made for race driver Stirling Moss has become the world’s most expensive car, selling in a private transaction  for $35 million.

The distinctive apple-green Ferrari, one of 39 GTOs produced from 1962 to 1964, is listed among May’s high-end sales at anamera, a website for classic car dealers. Two specialist traders have independently confirmed the transaction and price.

This was formerly the world's most expensive car. It is a 1930's Bugatti 57sc Atlantic that sold in a private auction for $30 mill.
The Ferrari car was painted in the pale-green livery of Moss’s UDT- Laystall race team. Moss suffered a career-ending crash at the Goodwood circuit in Sussex on April 23, 1962, in a race just prior to taking the wheel of his new Ferrari. The car was raced by his fellow U.K. driver Innes Ireland at the 1962 Le Mans, where it retired. This is the most expensive car in the world selling for $35 mill.
